What is LibreLinkUp?

LibreLinkUp is a free mobile app that allows parents and other caregivers to receive glucose readings from a loved one who uses LibreLink to scan their FreeStyle Libre sensor.

Once you have installed the app and accepted an invitation to connect from a LibreLink user, you will receive their glucose information on your smartphone each time they scan their FreeStyle Libre sensor. LibreLinkUp does not need to be open or running for you to receive notifications; notifications can be viewed on your smartphone’s lock screen.

LibreLinkUp allows caregivers to make connections with up to 20 LibreLink users. Likewise, LibreLink users can share glucose information with up to 20 LibreLinkUp connections.

 

What’s the difference between LibreLink and LibreLinkUp?

LibreLink enables users to monitor their glucose using a smartphone and a FreeStyle Libre sensor. It is designed for people with diabetes.

LibreLinkUp enables users to receive glucose readings on their smartphones whenever a loved one scans a FreeStyle Libre sensor using LibreLink. It is designed primarily for parents and caregivers. Anyone can download the app, but you must be invited by a LibreLink user to start receiving their glucose information. LibreLinkUp cannot be used to scan FreeStyle Libre sensors.

A LibreLink user does not need the LibreLinkUp app on their own phone to share glucose data with family and friends.

 

What smartphones are compatible with LibreLinkUp?

LibreLinkUp is compatible with many popular Android smartphones. (An iPhone version of the app is coming in 2017.) Your phone must meet the following requirements:

  • Android OS 4.4 or higher
  • Wi-Fi or a cellular data plan

How long does it take after a LibreLink user scans their sensor for a caregiver to see the glucose reading in their LibreLinkUp app?

It’s pretty quick, but will depend on several factors including internet connection and the wireless service provider’s data network speed. LibreLinkUp uses the same operating system notification service that most other apps use on your phone.

 

Will I receive glucose data each time my child or loved one scans?

Yes, you will receive glucose information every time your child or loved one scans a sensor successfully with their LibreLink mobile app.

However, if your loved one scans their sensor with a FreeStyle Libre reader instead of their smartphone, you will not receive glucose data from that scan. Readers are not internet-enabled devices and cannot be used to share glucose information in this way.

 

Using LibreLinkUp

Do I need an Internet connection for LibreLinkUp?

Yes. You need an internet connection to receive notifications from your LibreLink connections.

 

Can I silence the app temporarily if I need to go to a meeting?

Yes. To turn off notifications temporarily:


  1. 1. Go to the main screen of the app
  2. 2. Press the bell icon
  3. 3. Then press “Turn Off Notifications” in the window. A line will appear through the bell icon.

To turn notifications back on, press the bell icon and follow the instructions on the screen.

 

How many LibreLink users can I follow with the LibreLinkUp app?

You can follow up to 20 different LibreLink users with the LibreLinkUp app.

 

Why am I not getting notifications?

Look at the bell icon on the main screen of the app. If the bell icon has a line through it, then notifications for the app are turned off. To turn them on, tap on the bell icon and follow the instructions on the screen to turn notifications on.

Note: If the bell icon has a line through it and when you select it you receive a message that notifications are turned off on your smartphone, you will need to go to the notifications settings on your smartphone’s operating system. After confirming that notifications are turned on in your smartphone’s operating system for LibreLinkUp, you can return to the main screen in the LibreLinkUp app and confirm that notifications are turned on by looking at the bell icon.

 

Will I receive sound notifications if my smartphone is set on “vibrate only” or “do not disturb”?

No, you will not receive sound notifications on the LibreLinkUp app if your smartphone is set on “vibrate only” or “do not disturb”.

 

Does LibreLinkUp need to be open or running in the background to get notifications?

No. As long as you have opened and signed in to the app at least once, you will receive notifications even if you have closed the app.

 

Where can I see previous glucose readings?

You can see a history of your connections’ scanned glucose readings on the main screen of the app. Up to 100 scans are listed in reverse chronological order below the latest glucose reading.

 

How do I reset my password?

To reset your password:

  1. Go to the “Get Started” screen
  2. Tap “Sign In”
  3. Tap “Forgot Password?”
  4. Enter the e-mail address used to create the account
  5. Tap “Done”
  6. You will receive an e-mail with a link to reset your password
  7. Follow the link and enter a new password.
  8. Sign in to LibreLinkUp using your new password
 

What does “HIGH” and “LOW” mean?

“LOW” indicates a glucose reading lower than 2.2 mmol/L (40 mg/dL).

“HIGH” indicates a glucose reading higher than 27.8 mmol/L (500 mg/dL).

If either of these readings is seen, the LibreLink User Guide states that the user should check their blood glucose with a test strip. If they get a “LO” or “HI” result from a blood glucose meter, the LibreLink user should contact their healthcare professional immediately.

 

Can I use the same login information to sign into LibreLinkUp on more than one phone?

Yes. You just need to install the LibreLinkUp app on each phone and log in using the same account name and password as the one you used when you set up your first LibreLinkUp account.

What is LibreLinkUp?

LibreLinkUp is a free mobile app that enables a family or friend to receive glucose readings from a LibreLink app user whenever they scan their FreeStyle Libre sensor. Every scan from LibreLink is automatically sent to the LibreLinkUp app as a notification. Family or friends can remotely monitor glucose readings and trends, stay connected and help loved ones better manage their diabetes.

LibreLink users can share their glucose readings with up to 20 family members and friends that use the LibreLinkUp app. Likewise, LibreLinkUp caregivers can connect with up to 20 LibreLink users to see their glucose readings.

 

How do LibreLink and LibreLinkUp work together?

For LibreLink users that choose to share their glucose data with a LibreLinkUp user:


  1. Glucose readings are uploaded from a FreeStyle Libre sensor to the LibreLink app.
  2. The LibreLink app transmits the glucose readings to the LibreView cloud for storage using WiFi or a cellular data plan.
  3. The LibreLink app allows a user to invite family members or friends to view glucose readings stored in LibreView.
  4. A family member or friend can install the LibreLinkUp app on their own phone, accept the sharing invitation and then view glucose readings from the LibreLink app user.
 

How do I connect to a LibreLinkUp account?

To invite someone to see your glucose readings, open your LibreLink app, then:


  1. Open the Navigation Menu. From any screen, tap the “three lines” icon in the upper left corner.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Tap LibreLinkUp.
  4. Tap Create Connection.
  5. Enter Connection information. Enter name and e-mail address of the person you want to share your glucose readings with.
  6. Tap Invite.

When you send the invitation, the person with whom you want to connect will receive an email with instructions on how to download the LibreLinkUp app and sign up.

After the LibreLinkUp user logs in, they can accept your invitation to connect and begin receiving your glucose readings every time you scan your sensor using the LibreLink app.

How do I download the LibreLinkUp app?

If you are a LibreLink user you do not need to download the LibreLinkUp app to share glucose readings with family and friends.

Only the person receiving the glucose data from another LibreLink user needs to install the LibreLinkUp app on their phone.

How long does it take between a LibreLink scan and a receipt of the glucose data on LibreLinkUp app?

It’s pretty quick, but will depend on several factors including internet connection and the wireless service provider’s data network speed.

 

What information can I share if I invite a LibreLinkUp user to see my LibreLink data?

You can share your last scanned glucose reading and the trend arrow (which shows the direction the glucose is heading). Logbook entries, notes, and other data are not sharable at this time.

 

Can I turn off sharing after I invited a family member or friend to see my data in LibreLinkUp?

You can stop sharing data at any time. Open your LibreLink app, then:


  1. Tap the Navigation Menu
  2. Tap Share
  3. Tap LibreLinkUp
  4. Tap the name of the Connection with whom you wish to stop sharing data
  5. Tap "Stop Sharing

That person will no longer receive glucose information or notifications and their name will be removed from your list of Connections.

 

How can I tell if the person I invited to connect ever downloaded the app and signed up

Check the “Connection” screen in your LibreLink app to see your active connections. All active connections get a notification each time you scan your FreeStyle Libre sensor.

 

I deleted a Connection in LibreLink. How can I add my family member or friend back?

You will need to send a new invitation to reconnect.

 

How many people can I share my glucose readings with?

LibreLink users can share their glucose readings with up to 20 family members and friends that use the LibreLinkUp app.
